MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN to Launch in May 2025

Last yearTokura Shunichi, Commissioner of the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan, stated that he was considering creating a music award show similar to the Grammys for Asian artists. The show would be held in the agency’s new home city of Kyoto in 2025, with the goal of the show being the of Japanese artists to the world stage.

It has now been announced that this award show, now called MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN, will take place in Kyoto in May 2025, with plans to broadcast it globally.

MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN is being organized by the newly created Japan Culture and Entertainment Industry Promotion Association (CEIPA). This organization consists the Recording Industry Association of Japan, the Japan Association of Music Enterprises, the Federation of Music Producers Japan, the Music Publishers Association of Japan, and the All Japan Concert and Live Entertainment Promoters Conference.

More than 5,000 music industry workers, including artists, record label staff, and music distribution professionals, will participate in the voting process.

MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN will feature categories such as Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Best Song Asia.

The end of January 2024 through to the following year will be the timeframe that voters will look at in regards to who to award, awarding music that gained significant attention, focusing on tracks and artists that meet specific criteria.
