Japan Weekend Box Office 02/23 – 02/25: ‘Haikyuu!! Battle of The Garbage Dump’ keeps top spot in its 2nd week. ‘Matching’ debuts in 2nd place

The weekend box office data for the days of February 23 to February 25 saw last week’s number one, “Haikyuu!! Battle of The Garbage Dump” reclaim its spot with 781,000 moviegoers over the weekend and made 1.12 billion yen at the box office. As for debuts, thriller film “Hatching” starring Tao Tsuchiya and Snow Man’s Daisuke Sakuma debuted in 2nd place with 203,000 moviegoers over 295.5 million yen. The story follows main character Rinka (played by Tsuchiya), who has a fulfilling job as a wedding planner but is clueless about love herself. Rinka reluctantly creates a profile on a dating app and gets matched to a man (Sakuma) whom she agrees to meet in person. On the first date, she notices that the man has a totally different appearance from his picture on the dating app. Although he seems quite ordinary, Rinka feels something is off about him. Meanwhile, a series of murders are going on. Other newly released films that debuted within the top 10 include “Ultraman Blazar the Movie: Tokyo Kaiju Showdown” and Hollywood film “Madame Web.”
