On December 31, the “73rd NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen” will air. Earlier this week, Fujii Kaze was added to the lineup. Two other names have now been added.
Yumi Matsutoya will appear on the show as a special project in honor of her 50th anniversary. Ahead of this, she will have her own NHK music special, “NHK MUSIC SPECIAL Yumi Matsutoya ~Watashi to Yumi Arai no 50nen~.” The show will air on December 15 at 10 PM JST. In the special, she will visit her parents’ home and reveal her upbringing and the struggles of her youth.
Kayama Yuzo has also been added as a special project. He announced that this will be the final year he will perform live, with this year’s Kohaku as his final stage. At 85, he is the oldest person to ever perform on the show.
