The National Cherry Blossom Festival is an annual celebration in the American capital of Washington. The festival commemorates the 1912 gift of Japanese cherry trees from Tokyo Mayor Yukio Ozaki to Washington as a symbol of friendship between the United States and Japan. The festival also celebrates the continuing close bond between the two nations. This year’s festival is March 20 to April 16.
One of the festival’s marquee events is the Opening Ceremony. This unique event features special performances from acclaimed artists with ties to both the US and Japan. Today, the it was announced that Travis Japan will perform at the National Cherry Blossom Festival Opening Ceremony! They will join the previously announced acts Anna Sato x Toshiyuki Sasaki, Mika Stoltzman, and PETÆL.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival Opening Ceremony will take place at the Warner Theatre in Washington on March 25, from 5 PM to 6:30 PM. If you’re in the Washington area, admission is free, in addition to a $5 registration fee. For those not in the Washington area, a livestream of the Opening Ceremony will be aired on the festival’s YouTube channel.
As hinted at in our last episode of the Nante Japan Podcast, we will be covering the Opening Ceremony live from Washington! Look forward to coverage!
