The Japan Record Awards Revokes Johnny Kitagawa’s Special Music Culture Award

In 2019, the Japan Record Awards had given the recently deceased (at the time) Johnny Kitagawa a honorary Special Music Culture Award to honor his achievements in developing idol culture within Japan. Kondo Masahiko had received the award on his behalf.

Today, the Japan Composer’s Association announced that they would be revoking the award as of today in light of recent events. On the website for the 61st Awards the special category section has already been erased.
