Snow Man’s Ren Meguro to Star in Second Season of American TV Series “Shogun”

It has been announced that Ren Meguro of Snow Man will star in the second season of the American television series “Shogun.”

The first season of the show, which aired last year, was met with critical and commercial success, garnering 18 Emmy Awards (out of 25 nominations), including “Outstanding Drama Series”, as well as “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series” and “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series”, for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, respectively. Frederick E. O. Toye won “Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series” for the episode “Crimson Sky.”

In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (played by Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. At the same time, a mysterious European ship was found marooned nearby. John Blackthorne, its English pilot (played by Cosmo Jarvis), shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga, helping him put things in his favor to win the civil war.

The new season of “Shogun” is set ten years after the events of the first season, and will continue the history-inspired saga of two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined.

Ren will be playing a character by the name of Kazutada. Of his casting, Ren said, “I am incredibly honored to join the cast of ‘Shogun’ season two. When I streamed ‘Shogun’ on Disney+ last year, I was profoundly moved by the series’ unique and grand portrayal of Japan, which felt different from past portrayals. As a Japanese person, I felt a compelling urge to be part of this groundbreaking production.”

He continued, “I am committed to honoring the legacy that so many have built before me and to carefully shaping the role entrusted to me in this remarkable series. I can’t wait for everyone to see the release of ‘Shogun’ season two and to share in this incredible journey with us.”

Production on the new season of “Shogun” is set to start in January in Vancouver. When the new season debuts, American audiences can view it via the TV channel FX and streaming on Hulu. Internationally, it will be available to stream on Disney+.
