On September 20, Sexy Zone will release their 24th single, “Honne to Tatemae.” The song serves as the theme song for the Fuji TV “Usokon”, which stars group member Fuma Kikuchi.
“Honne to Tatemae” was written, composed, and arranged by Shiina Ringo. Ringo decided to create the song after appeals from Sexy Zone and the drama’s producers. She read the the manga the drama is based on, as well as the drama’s script before writing the song. The result is a “sweet and sour adult love story that begins with a lie” that shows Sexy Zone’s charm like never before.
Sexy Zone met Ringo for the first time during the song’s recording. Speaking of working with Ringo, Fuma said it was a happy honor and that it felt like a dream. He also was taken by surprise that she would actually be there during the recording process. He said that the members were all quite nervous during recording, but Ringo gave them friendly direction in a positive atmosphere.
Ringo spoke of Sexy Zone’s voice, noting that there were interesting things in each of their vocal ranges. She spoke of Fuma’s high notes, Kento Nakajima‘s colorful variations, Shori Sato‘s sweet and bitter voice, and Sou Matsushima‘s sorrowful voice.
