Japan Weekend Box Office 03/24 – 03/26: “Doraemon: Nobita’s Sky Utopia” Soars Back To First Place

The weekend movie box office ranking from March 24th to 26th has been released and already on its 4th week of release “Doraemon: Nobita’s Sky Utopia” soared its way back to the top spot. Over the weekend the film earned 392 million yen in box office revenue bringing the combined total to 2.5 billion yen. Newly released films that were able to rank within the top 10 include “Gridman Universe”, “Lost Care” and “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile.” 


Last week’s 1st place “My Happy Marriage ” starring Ren Meguro and Mio Imada dropped one rank to 2nd place, but was still able to collect 192,000 moviegoers and box office revenue of 262 million yen. The cumulative total for “My Happy Marriage” is now 949,000 moviegoers and a box office revenue of 1,271 million yen. 3rd place is “Shin Kamen Rider “, with 178,000 moviegoers and a box office revenue of 278 million yen, bringing its cumulative total to 752,000 moviegoers and box office revenue of 1,147 million yen. 


Still showing strong results in its 17th week since release, THE FIRST SLAM DUNK came in at 4th place, recording 127,000 moviegoers and 159 million yen in box office revenue over the weekend. The cumulative total has exceeded 8.6 million moviegoers and box office revenue exceeded 12.4 billion yen.


Newly released film “Gridman Universe”,  debuted in 5th place and is an original film that is based on the Denkou Choujin Gridman series created by the producers of Ultraman. “Gridman Universe” features characters from the anime series “SSSS.GRIDMAN” and “SSSS.DYNAZENON”  


Debuting in 6th place, “Lost Care” is a film adaptation of Japan Mystery Literature Awards Newcomer of the Year Akira Hamanaka ‘s novel. The film was directed by Tetsu Maeda, and depicts the investigation about a caregiver (played by Kenichi Matsuyama) who may or may not have killed 42 people and a prosecutor (played by Masami Nagasawa) who seeks to find out the truth.
