Hashimoto Kanna and Kamishiraishi Mone to Take “Spirited Away” Play to London

In celebration of the 90th anniversary of entertainment company Toho’s founding, the stage play of one of their properties, Hayao Miyazaki‘s “Spiritied Away”, will be staged in London in 2024. The play, which will be in Japanese with English subtitles, will run at the London Coliseum April to July 2024. This will be the first time that the play has been taken overseas.

The “Spirited Away” play premiered at Tokyo’s Imperial Theater in March 2022. Directed by Olivier and Tony Award-winning director John Caird, it has run for 102 performances so far. Hashimoto Kanna and Kamishiraishi Mone have split the role of Chihiro, the play’s main character. They will continue to do so during its London run. Of the play venturing to London, Kanna said that she has great pride in being able to play Chihiro in London, while Mone said that it is a great honor to perform the play in Japanese just as it has been done in Japan.

“Spirited Away” will be the largest theater production in Japanese by a Japanese cast outside of Japan in history. While other Toho plays have been taken overseas, none have gone on as long as this one will with a Japanese cast in Japanese.

Theatergoers are now able to sign up for priority booking of tickets of here.
