Winner of the 94th Academy Award for Best International Feature Film “Drive My Car”, it has been announced that filmmaker Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s latest work “Aku wa Sonzai Shinai” (Evil Does Not Exist) will be officially premiering in the competition section of the 80th Venice Film Festival that will be held from August 30 to September 9. The 106-minute long feature-length film was written and directed by Hamaguchi with music by Eiko Ishibashi who also did the music for “Drive My Car”
It was also announced that filmmaker Shinya Tsukamoto’s latest film “Hokage” (Shadow of Fire) starring Shuri and Mirai Moriyama will be competing in the Orizzonti section of the Venice Film Festival, which is described as an international section of the competition dedicated to films that represent the latest aesthetic and expressive trends. “Hokage” will be the first time in five years that Tsukamoto’s work has been selected for the Venice Film Festival since “Killing” in 2018. “Hokage” is a work that depicts the pain and trauma of the survivors immediately after the end of world war II. Shuri plays a woman who lost her family in the war and makes a living by selling her body in a burnt-out pub, while Moriyama plays a mysterious man who cannot move his arm. “Hokage” will be released domestically on November 25.
