“NEO GEO” is Sakamoto’s seventh solo album originally released in 1987 and will be re-released on July 24 as a vinyl and Blu-ray box set with tour footage. It was co-produced with Bill Laswell for its first worldwide release and features highly notable musicians from various genres, including Sly Dunbar, Boosty Collins, and Tony Williams.
The box set includes two vinyl copies of “NEO GEO” the latest cutting done by Bernie Grundman, and a 12-inch single of “RISKY”, a song from the album featuring Iggy Pop‘s vocals, as well as a copy of the final performance of the domestic tour held July 1987, the month “NEO GEO” was released. In addition, two Blu-ray discs will be included in the package, one featuring the video of the final performance at NHK Hall in Japan in July 1987, and the other featuring the live performance “NEO GEO Live in New York” at the Beacon Theater in New York in June 1988, right after Sakamoto won the Academy Award for Best Original Score for “The Last Emperor”, making him the first Japanese person to win an Oscar for Best Original Score. This will be the first time that the NHK Hall concert will be released as a commercial product.
In addiction, a 180 vinyl version of “NEO GEO” and a digitally remastered paper jacket version of the CD will also be released on July 24.
