A press conference was held on October 5 for the NHK taiga drama “Berabou: Tsuta Juu Eika Osamu Yume Hanashi” scheduled to be broadcast in 2025. The main cast will consist of Ryusei Yokohama, Ken Watanabe, Shota Sometani, Hio Miyazawa, and it has also been announced that Ainosuke Kataoka will be appearing. Yoshiko Morishita is in charge of the script. The plot depicts the life of Juzaburo Tsutaya, an Edo period publisher known for introducing ukiyo-e woodblock prints of some of the most famous artists of that era including Kitagawa Utamaro and Katsushika Hokusai. Tsutaya is considered the man who built the foundation of Japan’s media and pop culture industries.

All main cast members were present for the press conference. Ryusei Yokohama will play the main character Juzaburo Tsutaya, Ken Watanabe as Okitsugu Tanuma, a reformer aiming for a new era for the shogunate. Shota Sometani will play the role of Utamaro Kitagawa, a genius painter who caused a sensation in Edo, and Hio Miyazawa will play the role of Okitomo Tanuma, the tragic prince. Ainosuke Kataoka was casted as Urokogataya Magobei, a publisher who became the rival of Juzaburo Tsutaya.
