In 2012, NEWS released their hit single “Chankapana.” The popularity of the song has endured in the 13 years since its release. When NEWS released their music digitally for the for first time last September, of the 500 songs released “Chankapana” attracted particular attention. The song shot up the Top 100 charts not only in Japan, but in numerous major markets around the world. Adding the 20 million plays for the official “Chankapana” music video on YouTube, the song has accumulated a whopping 100 million streams.
On June 2, another chapter in the history of “Chankapana” will be written when the song’s English version is released digitally. Included on this single is the original song, along with the remastered 2023 version recorded for NEWS’ 20th anniversary album “NEWS EXPO.”
The album part for “Chankapana (English Version)” pays homage to the original 2012 CD artwork for “Chankapana,” but with a contrast that underscores the changes they’ve undergone as adult artists.
