Namie Amuro revealed to be producing for an unnamed K-pop group

Namie Amuro (47) herself has not been seen in public since her retirement in September 2018. But according to media outlet Josei Jishin, she is now working behind the scenes as a K-Pop producer. Namie has had connections with people in the Korean entertainment industry for some time, and it seems that people around her have often suggested that she should debut in South Korea as a singer. Amidst all of this, a music industry source revealed that  her plan is to now return as a producer. It was revealed that Namie has been interested in K-pop idols for a long time, and that she wants to get involved in music in any way she can now.

“Even if she’s a diva who defined an era, singing and dancing in front of people for the first time in six years would require a certain amount of training. In that respect, as a producer, you don’t necessarily have to appear in public yourself, so the hurdle is probably relatively low,” said an entertainment industry insider. “Many singers become interested in producing when they reach their 40s. Namie may be in the same situation and is feeling positive about the plan to produce an idol group that can sing and dance.”

Furthermore, it is said that as she spends her free time since her retirement, Namie is slowly regaining her passion for music. Especially since the beginning of this year, she has begun to express her desire to give back to the world of music. During her decades-long career, Namie performed in many concerts across Asia and has been immensely popular in Korea. The K-pop idols that Namie will be training will attract a lot of attention, and naturally there will be an influx of people from all over the world eager to see her.

The music industry insider mentioned that if the support of her fans encourages her, there is a possibility that Namie herself will be able to return as a singer in the future.
