Several weeks ago, Johnny’s WEST member Nakama Junta spoke out about the press conference, where he talked about his personal connection to the Johnny’s name. This week, it seems like after much deliberation, the group members have chosen a different direction.

On the same program where he first spoke out, Nakama confirmed this week that the members were in discussion with management to actively change their name, with the group unanimously agreeing to the decision. While there was still an attachment to the old name, all the members wanted to start afresh after realizing that there would absolutely be people – particularly victims – who would get flashbacks of sexual abuse after seeing hearing the name Johnny’s.
This morning (Saturday September 30th), all the newspapers in Japan were running stories of this revelation. Let’s hope they find a good name to change towards!
