The weekend movie box office ranking from October 13 to October 15 once again was led by “Don’t Call it Mystery: The Movie” in first place for the fifth consecutive week. In its fifth weekend 142,000 moviegoers were in attendance and grossed 198 million yen (1.32 million USD) at the box office. In the film’s first 31 days of release, the cumulative total has now reached 2.78 million moviegoers, and a box office revenue that has exceeded 3.763 billion yen (24.7 billion USD). Newly released films in Japan that ranked within the top 10 include “Yutori Desu ga Nani ka International”, Shunji Iwai’s newest film “Kyrie”, and Hollywood films “The Nun II” and “Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.”
Debuting in 3rd place, “Yutori Desu ga Nani ka International”, collected 93,000 moviegoers over the weekend and grossed 134 million yen (900,346 USD) at the box office. The plot follows a trio of young adults in their mid-30s who find themselves at a crossroads of life, and must confront the challenges of the new era, such as work reforms. In 2nd place, “Analog,” based on Takeshi Kitano’s novel, attracted 93,500 moviegoers and 133 million yen (895,050 USD) at the box office. The cumulative total for “Analog” is now 430,000 moviegoers and nearly 600 million yen (4 million USD).
“Kyrie”, directed by Japanese cinema auteur Shunji Iwai who is known for “Love Letter” and “Hana and Alice” debuted in 4th place. Aina The End plays the main role of Kyrie, a female street musician. The cast also includes SixTONES Hokuto Matsumura, Haru Kuroki, and Suzura Hirose. The film attracted 79,000 moviegoers and grossed 113 million yen (792, 434 USD) at the box office.
