Japan Weekend Box Office 09/01 – 09/03. ‘Haunted Mansion’ is the number one movie in Japan

The weekend movie box office ranking from September 1 to September 3 revealed that Disney’s new film “Haunted Mansion” debuted in first place with 328,000 moviegoers and box office revenue of 176 million yen. Other newly released films in Japan that ranked within the top 10 include Yoji Yamada’s new film “Mom, Is That You?!” and “You Made My Dawn” starring JO1’s Ruki Shiroiwa and Rinka Kumada. 

 

Celebrating his 90th directorial work, filmmaker Yoji Yamada’s new film “Mom, Is That You?” starring Sayuri Yoshinaga and Mei Nagano debuted in 3rd place with 147,000 moviegoers and 181 million yen at the box office over the weekend. The story is based on the play of the same title by playwright Ai Nagai.

 

In 4th place “Kingdom III: Flame of Destiny” has now recorded a cumulative performance of 3,435,000 moviegoers and box office revenue of 4,916 million yen in its 6th week of release. “The Boy and the Heron” ended the weekend in 5th place and the cumulative performance has now exceeded 5.17 million moviegoers and 7.7 billion yen in box office revenue.
