Japan Weekend Box Office 03/22 – 03/24: ‘Henna Ie’ (A Strange House) remains on top for second consecutive week

For the second week in a row, “Henna Ie” (A Strange House) topped the weekend box office data. During the weekend (March 22 to March 24) the film brought in 399,000 moviegoers and a box office revenue of 519 million yen, exceeding the previous week’s results. The cumulative total has now been brought to 1.19 million moviegoers and box office revenue of 1.5 billion yen. Other newly released films that debuted within the top 10 include “April Come She Will” in 4th place with 164,000 moviegoers and box office revenue of 229 million yen and “Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction” in 7th place. 

Still in the top 3, “Doraemon: Nobita’s Earth Symphony” went down a spot from last weekend but 267,000 moviegoers and grossed 327 million yen. The cumulative results are now 1.99 million moviegoers and box office revenue of 2.4 billion yen. Up a spot from last weekend, “Haikyuu!! Battle of The Garbage Dump” brought in 354,000 moviegoers and grossed 531 million yen. Starting on March 23, a special “Karasuno vs Nekoma Memorial Book” was distributed as a giveaway to moviegoers, which led to the film’s box office results greatly exceeding the previous week’s results. The cumulative results have now exceeded 5.5 million moviegoers and box office revenue of 7.9 billion yen.
