Japan Weekend Box Office 03/15 – 03/17: ‘Henna Ie’ (A Strange House) debuts at No. 1 while ‘Godzilla Minus One’ and ‘The Boy and Heron’ re-enter the top 10

The weekend box office data for the days of March 15 to March 17 saw many new debuts within the top 10 including new number one “Henna Ie” (“A Strange House”) starring Shotaro Mamiya and Jiro Sato. In its first three days the film attracted 344,000 moviegoers and grossed 474 million yen at the box office. Other newly released films that debuted within the top 10 include Hollywood blockbuster “Dune: Part Two” in 5th place, manga live action adaptation “Lovesick Ellie” in 6th place, and Hollywood animated film “Migration” in 7th place. Over the weekend, Oscar winning Japanese films “Godzilla Minus One” and “The Boy and the Heron” also made their way back into the top 10 in 4th and 8th place respectively. 

As for previously released films, “Doraemon: Nobita’s Earth Symphony” attracted 288,000 moviegoers and grossed 353 million yen at the box office, bringing the cumulative total to 1.41 million moviegoers and box office revenue of 1.7 billion yen. Last week’s number one, “Haikyuu!! Battle of The Garbage Dump” attracted 245,000 moviegoers over the weekend and a box office revenue of 363 million yen. The cumulative results are now 4.9 million moviegoers and box office revenue of over 7 billion yen.
