The weekend box office data for the days of January 26 to 28 saw yet another new number one movie. “Golden Kamuy” was now dethroned by the animated film “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom”. Being the third animated installment of the SEED series, and a sequel to the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED (2002) and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny (2004), “SEED Freedom” attracted 634,000 moviegoers and grossed 1.6 billion yen at the box office securing its debut at number one. “Silent Love” starring Ryosuke Yamada and Minami Hamabe debuted in third place with 155,000 moviegoers and box office revenue of 212 million yen. Other newly released films that debuted within the top 10 are “Gekijoban Kimi to Sekai ga Owaru Hi ni Final” and foreign film “Poor Things” made its premier in Japanese theaters.
“Golden Kamuy” continued to show strong results despite dropping to second place. Over the weekend the film had 238,000 moviegoers and box office revenue of 367 million yen. The cumulative results have now exceeded 790,000 moviegoers and box office revenue of 1.1 billion yen.
