The weekend movie box office ranking from Aug 25 to Aug 27 has been released and for the first time in 5 weeks, “Kingdom III: Flame of Destiny” was dethroned. Over the weekend, Hollywood film “Meg 2: The Trench” debuted in 1st place with 268,000 moviegoers and 433 yen in box office revenue. Newly released films in Japan that ranked within the top 10 include “G-Men”, “BE:the ONE” and “Haru ni Chiru.”
Coming of age film “G-Men” starring Yuta Kishi made its first appearance in the top 10 by debuting in 2nd place with 149,900 moviegoers and box office revenue of 210 million yen. Last week’s 1st place, “Kingdom III: Flame of Destiny” ended the weekend in 3rd place with 148,000 moviegoers and 216 million yen at the box office. The cumulative performance has now exceeded 3.2 million moviegoers and 4,595 million yen at the box office. Now in its 7th week since release, “The Boy and the Heron” ranked in 4th place with 143,800 moviegoers and 217 million yen at the box office.
The first documentary of boy group BE:FIRST, “BE:the ONE”, ranked 9th place. The footage shows live performances from the group’s first national tour “BE:FIRST 1st One Man Tour ‘BE:1’ 2022-2023” as well as member interviews, and an acoustic performance of their song “Message.”
