The weekend movie box office ranking from June 23 to June 25 has been released and Disney live action film “The Little Mermaid” kept its first place spot for the 3rd consecutive week. Over the weekend the film attracted 227,000 moviegoers and box office income of 340 million yen. The cumulative results have now reached 1.35 million moviegoers and the box office revenue exceeded 2 billion yen. Newly released films in Japan included the animated film “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Home Alone” which debuted in 4th place and “Daimyo Bankruptcy” in 8th place.
Among the existing works, in its 9th week of release “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” was able to move up one rank from the previous week, and has racked up a cumulative audience of 8,627,000 moviegoers and box office revenue of 12,344 million yen. “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” went down one spot from last week and is now at 3rd place with 118,000 moviegoers and 183 million yen in box office revenue. The cumulative total for “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is now at 450,000 moviegoers and exceeded 700 million yen in box office revenue. With “The Little Mermaid”, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” all doing well in Japan, the current top 10 makes it the first time in about eight years that foreign films have been occupying the top three spots for two consecutive weeks. In 6th place, domestic film “Monster” attracted 1.1 million moviegoers in its first 24 days of release and exceeded 1.5 billion yen at the box office.
