Today, May 23, marks the seventh anniversary of King & Prince‘s debut with the single “Cinderella Girl.” To mark this occasion, they will release a new digital single, “What We Got ~Kiseki wa Kimi to~.” It will also appear on the duo’s upcoming 17th single, out August 6.
The song serves as Mickey Mouse’s new official theme song in Japan. It’s part of Disney’s large scale global project “Mickey & Friends in Real Life”, which comes in the run up to the 100th anniversary of Mickey Mouse’s debut in 2028. That year is also an important one for King & Prince, as it will mark the tenth anniversary of their debut.
The song’s creation was announced at the duo’s Fukuoka stop on their “King & Prince LIVE TOUR 24-25 ~Re:ERA~ in DOME” tour earlier this month, via a phone call from Mickey Mouse. The song is based the 2016 song “What We Got (Mickey’s Birthday Song)”, with the lyrical translation into Japanese done by King & Prince.
Upon hearing “What We Got ~Kiseki wa Kimi to~”, the Disney headquarters in the US praised the song, which has the theme of being true to oneself while respecting others.
A short video for “What We Got ~Kiseki wa Kimi to~” has now been released, with the full video coming this summer. Following the “Mickey & Friends in Real Life” concept, the video depicts King & Prince and Mickey & Friends hanging out in Shibuya. This video marks the first time that a Japanese act has performed with Mickey & Friends.
