Japan Weekend Box Office 07/14 – 07/16. Hayao Miyazaki’s final movie ‘HOW DO YOU LIVE?’ debuts in first place

The weekend movie box office ranking from July 14 to July 16 has been released and the new 1st place spot has been occupied by Studio Ghibli’s newest film ‘How Do You Live?’ directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Over the weekend the film was seen by 1,030,000 moviegoers and earned 1,626 million yen (11.3 million USD) at the box office. Revealed to be Hayao Mizakaki’s last film, ‘How Do You Live?’ attracted attention for its unusual promotional method of not revealing the contents or cast until its release. Other Newly released films in Japan include the animated romantic comedy film ‘The Quintessential Quintuplets.’ 


Last week’s 1st place spot, ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ found itself pushed down to 2nd place. It was able to record 180,000 moviegoers and 267 million yen at the box office. The cumulative performance is now at 1.34 million moviegoers and the box office revenue exceeded 1.953 billion yen. In 3rd place, ‘The Quintessential Quintuplets’, debuted with 195,000 moviegoers and box office revenue of 222 million yen.
