Japan Weekend Box Office 06/14 – 06/16: ‘Dear Family’ is the number one movie in Japan

The box office reports for the days of June 14  to June 16 revealed that the new family drama “Dear Family” debuted in first place. Based on true events, the film recounts the untold story behind the creation of the IABP device (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumping) which has saved 170,000 lives around the world. The cast includes Yo Oizumi, Kanno Miho, Fukumoto Riko, Kawaei Rina, Arai Miu, Uesugi Shuhei, and Matsumura Hokuto, In the first three days of release, the film attracted 185,000 moviegoers and earned 256 million yen in box office revenue. Other newly released films that were able to debut within the top 10 include Hollywood animated film “IF”  in 8th place and “Rabbits Kingdom Movie” in 10th place. 

As for previously released films, second place “Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram” kept the same spot from the previous week and attracted 92,000 people over the weekend and earned 130 million yen. The cumulative total has now exceeded 10.4 million moviegoers and the box office revenue is approaching 14.9 billion yen. In third place again, “Abudeka Is Back” attracted 67,000 moviegoers and earned 96 million yen. The cumulative total has now exceeded 920,000 moviegoers and 1.2 billion yen.
