Japan Weekend Box Office 05/17 – 05/19: ‘Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram’ is the number one movie in Japan for 6 consecutive weeks

In its 6th week since release  “Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram” continues to show strong results and kept the first place spot. Over the weekend (May 17 to May 19) the film welcomed 278,000 moviegoers and a box office revenue of 408 million yen. The cumulative total has now been brought to 9.43 million moviegoers and over 13.5 billion yen at the box office, and is now approaching the total box office gross of the previous film in the franchise, Detective Conan: The Black Iron Submarine (13.88 billion yen). Newly released films that were able to debut within the top 10 include “Gobangiri”  in 4th place  “Bob Marley: One Love” in 5th place and “Missing” starring Satomi Ishihara in 7th place. 

Haikyuu!! Battle of The Garbage Dump saw a massive jump in the ranking. Climbing up 7 spots from the previous week the film welcomed 141,000 moviegoers and box office revenue of 213 million yen. The cumulative results have now exceeded 7.46 million moviegoers and a box office total of 10.6 billion yen. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes went down a spot to 3rd place but still managed to attract 93,000 moviegoers and 138 million yen at the box office bringing the cumulative total to 386,000 moviegoers and box office revenue of 562 million yen.
