First Trailer for “Kubi” directed by Takeshi Kitano Now Available

The premiere of upcoming historical film “Kubi” directed by Takeshi Kitano will be held at the 76th Cannes International Film Festival on May 23rd. A new promotional teaser of the film has been released on YouTube.

Based on the novel of the same name written by Kitano, the story centers around the Honno-ji temple incident where there was an attempt on warlord Oda Nobunaga’s life eventually leading to Hideyoshi Toyotomi’s rise to power. Described as a “Sengoku Spectacle Movie” it will depict the ambition, betrayal, and fate of Warring States period warlords. Main cast members include Kitano as the role of Toyotomi Hideyoshi with Ryo Kase as Nobunaga Oda. Hidetoshi Nishijima will play the role of Mitsuhide Akechi, a samurai who has mixed feelings about Oda, while Tadanobu Asano plays Kanbei Kuroda, Hideyoshi’s strategist.

“Kubi” is scheduled to be released in Japan in Fall 2023. It has also been revealed that Kitano will be attending the Cannes International Film Festival.
