The “77th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen” is nearing! The show will air on NHK on December 31 at 7:20 PM JST – 11:45 PM JST, live from NHK Hall.
The theme of this year’s show is “Koete Ikou, Uta to Tomo ni.”, which translates to “Let’s move forward, together with song.” Amidst the widespread anxiety caused by various disasters across Japan this year, the theme expresses the desire to overcome these challenges together through song and find hope for the future.
This year’s hosts are Ashida Mana, Sakai Masato, Ninomiya Kazunari, and NHK announcer Suzuki Naoko. Both Mana and Masato will be hosting the show for the first time this year. Mana previously performed on the show in 2011, while Masato has served as a judge previously. Kazunari previously hosted the show with his former group Arashi from 2010 to 2014, and then individually in 2017. Naoko returns after hosting debut last year.
