SixTONES’ Shinkansen Promotion Ends Due to Safety Concerns

On October 1, the collaborative project “Enjoy! SixTONES, Enjoy! ShinKANSEN.” began. The collaboration between SixTONES and the Tohoku Shinkansen was created by the train company JR East in an effort to boost tourism in the Tohoku region, especially in rural areas.

For this campaign, SixTONES created a new song, “Shine with U.” The song appears in the CM for “Enjoy! SixTONES, Enjoy! ShinKANSEN.”, which can be seen below. It is also used as the departure melody for Tohoku Shinkansen platforms at Tokyo, Ueno, and Omiya Stations from October 1 – March 31. This came to an end though on October 10.

The reason for this sudden end is due to safety concerns. There has been an increase in the number of passengers recording themselves on the platforms using long handled microphones since “Shine with U” became the departure melody. Despite repeated announcements and employee intervention at the stations, the practice continued, creating safety concerns. This has caused JR East to revert back the original departure melody, despite the positive feedback the song received.
