New Poster for “Monster” directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda Now Available

The new poster visual for “Monster” (Kaibutsu) directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda and written by Yuji Sakamoto has been revealed. “Monster” is Kore-eda’s first Japanese film since “Shoplifters” in 2018. The music for the film will be provided by Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Until recently the plot has been kept under wraps, but newly released information reveals that the story takes place in a suburban town with a large lake. One day, a fight breaks out between the children at school. Gradually the case proves to be more severe than just a regular fight between children. As serious claims are made, adults, townsfolk, and the media become involved. And on a stormy morning, children suddenly disappear. In the trailer, children and adults singing the phrase “Who is the monster?” over and over again can be heard. In this film, Kore-eda will depict the search for “monsters” through the eyes of each character.

The poster features the main cast members Sakura Ando, Eita Nagayama, Soya Kurokawa, Hinata Hiiragi, and Yuko Tanaka.

Along with the poster, it has been revealed that the film will be premiering at the Cannes Film Festival in May, while the release in Japan is slated for June 2.
