Japan Weekend Box Office 08/02 – 08/04: ‘My Hero Academia: You’re Next’ debuts in first place with over 800 million yen at the box office

The box office data in Japan for the first weekend of August welcomed a new number one and addition to the popular manga and anime series  “My Hero Academia: You’re Next.” In the first three days the film attracted 608,500 moviegoers and generated 895 million yen at the box office. Coming in second is the Hollywood animated film “Inside Out .” Its debut in Japan attracted 398,800 moviegoers and earned 536 million yen. In third place is “Despicable Me 4”  which was previously first place in its second week of release. Despite dropping two places, the cumulative results have still reached 1.9 million viewers and 2.4 billion yen in box office revenue. In fourth place is “Kingdom 4” which recorded 5.05 billion yen in box office revenue in the 21 days since its release up until August 1, achieving the remarkable feat of being the fourth consecutive film in the series to break the 5 billion yen mark. Its cumulative results in the 24 days since release have exceeded 3.65 million moviegoers and over 5.4 billion yen in box office revenue. Other newly released films that were able to debut within the top 10 include “Honeko Akabane’s Bodyguard” “Code Geass: Rose’s Recapture – Final Act” and Hollywood thriller “Twisters.”
