Singer Akina Nakamori (58) announced that her unreleased song “Hello Mary Lou” from 1986 will finally be released on April 1. On March 15, Akina unveiled “Hello Mary Lou” on her ALDEA RADIO program exclusively for fan club members. It was then revealed that the song would be added as a special bonus track to the “Best Collection ~Love Songs & Pop Songs~” compilation album. “Hello Mary Lou” is a song based on the 50s rock and roll song “Merry, Merry Lou” originally released in 1957 by The Sparks and has since been covered by numerous artists. Akina’s version was initially aired as a TV commercial in 1988, but was never officially released. Regarding the announcement, Akina commented, “Thank you for giving me the opportunity to release ‘Hello Mary Lou’ after 36 years. It’s a song that will make you feel cheerful and I would be happy if you listen to it, whether you still remember it or not.” An official live performance of “Hello Mary Lou” from 1988 will also be released for the first time on YouTube.
Akina has also revealed that she will be doing a self-cover project on her official YouTube channel that will run for 5 weeks in celebration of her 42nd anniversary since debut on May 1st. The first cover will be a jazz rendition of “TATTOO” scheduled to be released on April 3.
