The nominations for the 46th Japan Academy Awards were announced on the 23rd. The film “A Man” leads in number of nominations with 13 nominations in 12 categories, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. Works that were released from January 1 to December 31, 2022 and met the selection criteria were nominated. The winners for each category will be announced at the award ceremony on March 10th hosted by Kasumi Arimura and Shinichi Hatori.
“A Man” is a film based on a novel by Keiichiro Hirano. The plot revolves around a lawyer who was asked to investigate the background of a man who turned out to be someone else after his death. He then pursues the truth about the man who lived as a stranger. Satoshi Tsumabuki was nominated for Best Actor, while Masataka Kubota for Best Supporting Actor, and Sakura Ando and Nana Seino for Best Supporting Actress respectively.
Yo Oizumi, Kasumi Arimura, and Ren Meguro (from boy group Snow Man) starred in “Phases of the Moon”, which is nominated for 9 awards including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Newcomer Award. “Anime Supremacy!” starring Riho Yoshioka is nominated for 9 categories including Best Picture, Best Actress, and the Newcomer Award.
In addition, “Shin Ultraman”, which was written by Hideaki Anno and directed by Shinji Higuchi, is nominated for 7 categories (including the Newcomer Award). “The Wandering Moon” starring Suzu Hirose, Tori Matsuzaka, and Ryusei Yokohama is nominated for 6 categories. Period film “The Pass: Last Days of the Samurai” starring Koji Yakusho is also nominated in 6 categories.
